Good Morning!

I hope and pray that all is well.  We have returned from the Annual Conference in Moyo and are now concentrating on the last school term of the year which started Monday.

The Moyo Conference went well.  We were expecting about 400, but only about 200 attended.  This is common in Africa when transport isn't paid.  We were hosted by Moyo Baptist Church and Pastor Simon and Norah allowed us to stay with them for the 5 days.  We praise God for their care for us.

The Conference Theme was "A Heart for Missions and Ministry" Romans 10:14-15.  Moyo is a very depressed area in the West Nile district, and it is located about 5 miles from the South Sudan Border.  The people here are losing hope and struggling in their way of life because of the war, many refugees and poor infrastructure.  We were hoping to encourage the Pastor's in their work in the area.  I enjoy working with the people and refugees in the Moyo area and pray that God will work in the hearts of the people.  The suicide rate is very high there.

Adding to Moyo's problems, the bridge at Karuma which is on the main road to Moyo has been under repair and traffic is limited, no large transport trucks.  As of the Monday it will be completely closed.  They do not know how long this will take but the roads around the bridge take you about 200 km out of your way. Needless to say, I will not be working there for a while.

Our trip to Moyo was an adventure.  I met many mechanics.  The 12 hour drive turned into a 3 day ordeal.  Pushing the car, calling mechanics, staying in questionable guest houses and finally hitch hiking on a lorry and having to hire a private car to take us into Moyo.  The car is still in need of repair and parked in Gulu City. Praise God for keeping us safe along the way.

The new school term started Monday.  This is the last term so we really have to push to make sure all the curriculum is covered so that the children will do well on their final exams and be able to be promoted.  They have been doing well all year, so hopefully they will keep up the good work.

We have been doing a lot of improvements and building on the school (see pictures below). The 3 rooms that we had started building before I had to come home are almost finished. We are starting on the new permanent buildings to replace the temporary.  We are also building some dorm rooms for boarders, and we are hoping to buy some more land.  The last picture in of our old kitchen and the bottom of our property.  We are hoping to buy the land below this and to the side.  All of this is going to cost about $20,000 US at today's prices.  We would like to get a lot done before the new school year which starts the middle of January.

The school has been a big project with a lot of trial and tribulations, but the Lord has used it to meet the needs of many families that may have not been able to get education for their children and also they are able to hear the Gospel.  I am still teaching the morning Bible Study for the children and the Thursday Chapel service.  The children have a weekly memory verse and they are encouraged to learn it by Friday.  If they can say it to me then they get a sweet (piece of candy). I love working with the children and watching them grow in the Word of God.
