Merry Christmas Africa Update
Christmas and Holiday greetings to you all!
I praise God that I will be able to celebrate Christmas with my USA family and friends but I am missing my African family. I was able to see and talk with them all via the internet. Praise God for that. They are all doing well. There are about 25 people living at the house during the school break and so it is a real happy challenge, but it is good to have all the children home for the holidays.
Due to the Ebola outbreak in western Uganda the schools had to be closed early this year. The nursery graduation (Speech Day) had to be down sized, but we were ale to do the cap and gown ceremony and all the students were recognized for their achievements during the year. Hopefully we will be able to start the new year term on time and not be hindered by Covid-19 or Ebola.
This does give us some extra time to get the school organized for next year. We are hoping to finish the nursery building but we are still in need of funding to finish the roof and plastering. Any help would be appreciated. We need about $6,000 more to finish it. We were also able to acquire another 1/4 acre of land but the government says we have to fence it before we can use it. Praise God for the money that came in to help build the wall along the road but we still need to put wire fencing down the side as a temporary fix. It is legal for now but we will eventually have to have a permanent wall. We also have the opportunity to buy a house that boarders our school. It is a good structure and will give us more land. The house is well built and could be used for classrooms and office space. They are asking $8,000 for it. That is an excellent price and we are praying about what the Lord will have us do.
The school is an important ministry outreach. Many of the children can't attend school because of low income. We are trying to keep the school fees low enough so that the people can afford to attend and yet we can still afford to meet all our required bills and save some for improvements, repairs and expansion. We are also able to use it to reach families for Christ. The government allows us to visit the parents as well as the neighbors of our children. This allows us to teach the Bible at school, follow up with the parents and also share with the neighborhood, opening doors for communities to hear the gospel.
Mom is doing well but needs 24/7 care. I have become her main health care provider which doesn't give me the freedom to come and share with each of you, but hopefully I will be able to do a few visits if we are able to get some other help.
The churches in Mukono and Lugazi are doing well. They are planning a Christmas party for the children in the Nemengo/Kasambya area and we can have an outreach to share the gospel with them. They are expecting about 100 children to attend.
The problem with the NGO (non government organization) and therefore my visa has not been resolved. We have obtained a new lawyer so hopefully it will be able to move forward and we can operate again.
Praise God Pastor Tiondi was finally able to attend the training for the deaf and blind. We will be using this in the outreach to the refugees in Uganda and also in South Sudan. There is going to be another training in the South Sudan and he hopes to be able to attend and help there.
