Lugazi Uganda Feb newsletter

Greeting from Lugazi,     February was a bit slower pace that January although there was plenty to do.  We didn't travel as much and I never left Lugazi.  Pastor Tiondi went to Masindi the beginning of the month to deal with some issues in the Church. They were able to be quickly and successfully resolves.  We are now planning for a conference and crusade there in April. Part of the reason we weren't traveling much was that on February 8th, Pastor Tiondi and 2 others were in a roll over accident on the way back from taking Pastor Moses to be with his family.  They all walked away from the accident with cuts and bruises.  Pastor injured his shoulder but the x-ray was clear but it was very painful for a couple of weeks. The driver was thrown from the vehicle and praise God he was fine.  The other passenger was bruised pretty badly but is okay.  They were treated at the Iganga Hospital for shock and small laceration...

Africa Jan 2022

Greetings to all! It has been a very busy January, but it looks like we get to slow just a little bit in February. The school is now open and we have almost 150 students.  This is really good although most of them are in the nursery classes, ages 3-5 years.  We need more in the upper primary to even things out, but it is getting hard to find places to put them.  We have had to reorganize and change classes and classrooms many times, but I think it is finally settled.  We hired a new head teacher and she is very good, but a bit overwhelmed because she has had to take on the full responsibility of enrollment and accounting since Kevin quit.  I help wherever I can but she has to be the one to talk to the parents as they come in.  Mostly I run errands and make sure we have all the supplies we need.  Usually this means going to town and school twice a day.  I also do the morning devotions and the weekly Chapel service.  Then on ...

Africa New Year 2022

Happy New Year! Well I haven't posted here for awhile but I am going to try to do better this year. Last year ended on a sorrowful note.  Pastor Tiondi's wife died suddenly.  They think it was due to a heart attack that was caused by a blood clot from the laceration that she had sutured 3 days earlier.  No autopsy was done so we will never know for sure.  Jesca was only 36 yr. and she leaves behind a husband and 6 children.  She was my best friend here and she taught me a lot about people, culture and children and helped me through many things here is Africa. We had the last Memorial service January 9th here in Lugazi.  She was a woman that loved the Lord and was always helping people.  Her children loved her and she taught them to love the Lord.  She supported  her husband in his Pastoral Ministry and was always willing to share the Gospel of Jesus.  She will be missed. We have Pastor Moses as our assistant pastor at church. ...

Lugazi, Uganda 8-2021

Greetings It was good to see most of you while I was home and taking care of my mom for 6 months.  She is doing well and can get by with less help and this enabled me to return to Uganda.  I wish there was an easy way to be in 2 places at once, but I praise God for how well she is doing and that my sisters can now take care3 of her. I had an eventful trip back.  I was late getting into JFK but I had a long lay over so that was okay except that they wanted me to sit in the lobby for 5 hours before they would let me check in.  I caught an earlier flight to Istanbul which meant I had to wait the same amount of time for my flight to Entebbe but I could do it in the comfort of the layover area where there are shops and food and places to relax.  I arrived in Uganda at 4am Sunday morning and was home in Lugazi by 7am.  However my luggage didn't arrive until Tuesday afternoon, minus a few items.  Any how I arrived safely and the Covid clearance was quic...

Africa update November2020

This Month has been one for the books.  Although we have more freedom to travel it is very dangerous to travel; not because of Covid, but because of election protest.  Tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammo are being used to control the crowds and the protesters.  Candidate Bobi Wine has been arrested for election campaign violations and his supporters are very angry.  The military has been dispatched and many have been killed or maimed in Kampala.  Here in Lugazi there was a very small uprising but 2 canisters of tear gas put an end to it with out any other problems.  I have been staying out of the town and we are all safe here.  Pray for Uganda! (we have been praying for America and your election problems too). Two weeks ago we were able to go out and do door to door evangelism.  Almost all the churches have been able to open up, but people are still very hungry for the Word and are open to speaking with us.  We have an...

Greetings from Lugazi, Uganda.  We have been watching and praying for you as we see the devastating fires all over California. We are safe and healthy here.  The rainy season is causing a lot of flooding and has ruined some of our crops but we praise the Lord for what we have.  Our houses and schools are safe from the flooding. I have been working on the school and the school curriculum on Christian Character.  I am almost finished with that.  The building is coming along slowly.  We have the building frame and the latrine done.  The playground  is cleared and we will be planting grass and putting in some rock walkways. WE have the front done and are working on forming the veranda.  Still a lot of work to do.  We have found someone to make the desks for 50,000 UGX.  that is a really good price but we need twice as many because of spacing due to the covid restrictions.  We are planning to put in rain gutters so we can coll...

August 10, 2020

Good Morning,   We may get to reopen the churches if we can meet the requirements.  Everyone must wear a mask, service can only be 2 hours or less, chairs must be 2 meters apart, Worship leaders have to be 4 meters apart, but Speaker and translator have to be 10 meters apart (?!).  We also have to keep a record of everyone attending and their temperature upon entering the church.  Chairs and microphones have to be cleaned and sanitized after every use; they would like us to assign seats so that the person uses the same chair every time he/she comes.  Children under 12 are not allowed.  We haven't decided what we are going to do yet. They had a Pastor's meeting from churches in the area and they are going to make a counter proposal.  Under these rulings we can't open; for one thing, as small as our church is the speaker and the translator would have to be in 2 different rooms.  God is in control and we will see how things work out and ke...
