Africa Update

 Greetings It was good to see most of you while I was home and taking care of my mom for 6 months.  She is doing well and can get by with less help and this enabled me to return to Uganda.  I wish there was an easy way to be in 2 places at once, but I praise God for how well she is doing and that my sisters can now take care3 of her. I had an eventful trip back.  I was late getting into JFK but I had a long lay over so that was okay except that they wanted me to sit in the lobby for 5 hours before they would let me check in.  I caught an earlier flight to Istanbul which meant I had to wait the same amount of time for my flight to Entebbe but I could do it in the comfort of the layover area where there are shops and food and places to relax.  I arrived in Uganda at 4am Sunday morning and was home in Lugazi by 7am.  However my luggage didn't arrive until Tuesday afternoon, minus a few items.  Any how I arrived safely and the Covid clearance was quic...

  This Month has been one for the books.  Although we have more freedom to travel it is very dangerous to travel; not because of Covid, but because of election protest.  Tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammo are being used to control the crowds and the protesters.  Candidate Bobi Wine has been arrested for election campaign violations and his supporters are very angry.  The military has been dispatched and many have been killed or maimed in Kampala.  Here in Lugazi there was a very small uprising but 2 canisters of tear gas put an end to it with out any other problems.  I have been staying out of the town and we are all safe here.  Pray for Uganda!  Greetings from Lugazi, Uganda.  We have been watching and praying for you as we see the devastating fires all over California. We are safe and healthy here.  The rainy season is causing a lot of flooding and has ruined some of our crops but we praise the Lord for what we have.  Our houses and schools are safe from the flooding. I have been working on the school and the school curriculum on Christian Character.  I am almost finished with that.  The building is coming along slowly.  We have the building frame and the latrine done.  The playground  is cleared and we will be planting grass and putting in some rock walkways. WE have the front done and are working on forming the veranda.  Still a lot of work to do.  We have found someone to make the desks for 50,000 UGX.  that is a really good price but we need twice as many because of spacing due to the covid restrictions.  We are planning to put in rain gutters so we can coll...

 Good Morning,   We may get to reopen the churches if we can meet the requirements.  Everyone must wear a mask, service can only be 2 hours or less, chairs must be 2 meters apart, Worship leaders have to be 4 meters apart, but Speaker and translator have to be 10 meters apart (?!).  We also have to keep a record of everyone attending and their temperature upon entering the church.  Chairs and microphones have to be cleaned and sanitized after every use; they would like us to assign seats so that the person uses the same chair every time he/she comes.  Children under 12 are not allowed.  We haven't decided what we are going to do yet. They had a Pastor's meeting from churches in the area and they are going to make a counter proposal.  Under these rulings we can't open; for one thing, as small as our church is the speaker and the translator would have to be in 2 different rooms.  God is in control and we will see how things work out and ke...

Good morning and blessed Sunday to you all!     Things are going well here, but the lock down will continue for another 4 weeks. The students that are candidates for graduation this year were suppose to be able to go back to classes on Monday but that has been put off for another 4 weeks also.  They are putting major classes on TV for them in the mornings, but it is not the same, but at least they have something.     Pastor Tiondi has been in Moyo for 2 weeks.  He was able to get there by motorcycle.  There has been no rain there  so he has not been able to put in the garden yet. He has been able to work with the refugees and help there. They will also be able to work in our garden and get some food and work there.     We still have 23 people that we are taking care of here.  Your support has gone a long way for feeding them and also supplying much needed food for some of the people in the village.  People are go...

Greetings from Uganda! Everyone is safe and almost well.  We have had a few cases of malaria and the flu but that is common here so although I hate to see anyone sick, they are being taken care of and they are healing.  Kevin, our head teacher and her baby have been sick, but I have not been able to see them for she has been in Adjumani with here family.  Jesca's mom is also in Adjumani and has been very sick but she is getting better although she is very weak. Common things we deal with here in Africa. We are still unable to travel and although we are in what they call lock down, we have the freedom to walk anywhere.  The children play outside and I go to town and get what I want.  Most businesses are open in Lugazi although we still have a 7pm curfew.  Everything looks normal except there is no transportation.  The buses and the taxis aren't running and I am able to get across the highway without having to dodge taxis and lorrys.  ...

Good morning, We are all doing well, but we are still in lock-down.  We were hoping to get some relief and get back to normal but we have a couple of new cases and so I don't know what Pres. Museveni will say tomorrow at his weekly national address.  There was rumor that travel would be opening at half capacity.  We have had 88 cases, 0 deaths, 58 recoveries and most of the last positive cases have been international truckers (18 cases) Now the next problem is the flooding that has raised the level of Lake Victoria 13.12 meters.  The flooding in Kisumu, Kenya has caused the Lake to rise and 7000 people have been displaced since February. The rains that are so much there have caused problems here in Uganda and also in Tanzania.  One of the hardest places hit is Mwanza, Tanzania where I worked in 2009.  The flooding is effecting all the Islands on Lake Victoria and as far down river as Nakasongala and Lake Kyoga.  I have worked with many of...
